Both venues will resume their 2023 schedule announced Tuesday, though some predict the NTT IndyCar Series at Texas Motor Speedway and U.S. Road will be eliminated.
The 17-game schedule also includes a new venue — a street race scheduled for June 4 in downtown Detroit.
The schedule doesn’t differ much from the 2022 roster, which begins March 5 in the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida, and ends again on September 10 at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California. For St. Petersburg, the race was the 13th season opener of the IndyCar Series.
On the TV side, IndyCar will have 13 games on Network (NBC) TV, two on USA Network and just one on the Peacock premium subscription streaming service. The Peacock Premium competition will be held in Toronto on July 16,
“We are very excited about our schedule for the 2023 NTT IndyCar Series and build on last season’s viewership milestones,” said Mike Perman, vice president of programming at NBC Sports. “Through extensive coverage from NBC, Peacock and USA Network, NBC Sports is once again excited to tell the stories of these world-class drivers and this fascinating series.”
The only two-header race weekend on the schedule will once again take place in Iowa, with IndyCar racing at the Iowa Speedway on July 22 and 23.
“We work hard to match dates and locations, which has always been the goal of IndyCar,” said IndyCar president Jay Fry. “We’re excited to be back in downtown Detroit, where the layup of Road America and WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca will present new challenges for drivers and teams. Intensity levels will also be at an all-time high as we wrap up the season for three consecutive weekends .
“We’re very excited to see how 2023 unfolds as we have a record-breaking 2022 season.”
